ROLLERS & STAMPS TO CREATE TEXTURES

When the clay has a leather-like feel, we may utilize  stamps to decorate our ceramic items in fantastic and amazing ways.

Also, there are stamps that roll along ceramic objects, leaving lovely textures and impressions along the ceramic object. The width of the rollers varies depending on the level of originality and design wanted for the ceramic object.

STENCILING ON CLAY

Pottery stenciling is a very easy and great decorative technique.

You can create whatever kind of design you like using wax, tape, paper, and/or other materials, attach it to the ceramic leather-textured or bisqued object, and then apply slib or glaze over the entire surface. Once the slip or glaze has dried you will have to remove the papers away to see the astounding effects.

SLIP & BARBOTINE

The slips and barbotine are very frequently used to decorate the ceramic object and add a touch of color.

First we coat the ceramic object with slip or barbotine on a leather-textured clay, and once it is dry, we proceed to scratch the surface with the desired design.

THROWING WHEEL

The throwing wheel is one of a ceramicist’s most useful modeling tools. Using a throwing wheel takes patience, commitment, and persistence; it is not a simple tool. A skilled potter has the means to create an infinite number of lovely, thin pieces.

Throwing wheels come in a variety of designs, including manual ones that can be operated by a wheel, pedal, or electric power. Potters primarily utilize the electric ones.

SLABS ROLLERS

A slab roller or a manual roller can be used to create ceramic slabs.

Slab rollers are incredibly valuable and time savers instruments, they produce ceramic slabs of the same size and thickness that are then used to build ceramic objects which may also be decorated with stamps and/or ornamental rollers.

SCULPTING TOOLS

The main tools used to shape ceramic objects are spatulas and trimming tools.
Ceramic spatulas are quite similar to painting spatulas.

The trimming tools have a wooden handle and a thin, flat metal head that is used to add or take away clay from the sculpture.
The pieces are hollowed out and emptied using the emptiers.
